Come the heck on. Smoking Tire test drives an LS3-powered ND Miata. Pretty sweet idea...but it’ll cost you $50,000 and a stock Miata. When all’s said and done you’re paying about $75,000 for a V8 Mazda. Oh and they don’t currently build them with air conditioning. With that, you could satisfy your V8 craving with a GT350 or C7 Corvette plus $15k.

Hey they’re working on AC!
But yeah, it is a lot to ask. I will say they do some serious testing on their products. So it is a quality final product.

Good luck taking damn near 1,000 pounds out of the GT350 or C7 to match the Miata+LS3 weight.
The fact of the matter is, you can’t get 525hp and 2600 lbs out of ANYTHING new on the market today. An Aventador weighs 4000 lbs. A Pagani Huayra weighs 3700 lbs. GT350: 3600 lbs. C7 comes closest at 3300 lbs.
The people who buy these V8 Miatas know exactly what they want out of a car. And it isn’t air conditioning. Top always down regardless.

For $75K you could almost get a GT350 and a Fiata 124 Abarth.

I mean it does have more power than both of those cars and weighs over 1000lbs less than the ‘stang and about 700lbs less than the ‘vette. In the video he said its not for every one. They know that.
So they’ll build a few for some very happy owners.

none of those car would be cross-shopped by potential buyers.
Too heavy, not nimble enough.
This, on the other hand...
More power, value that will only go up and the added bonus that NO ONE will doubt your sexual orientation.

There’s no doubt that it is expensive. But I mean, they upgraqde everything and it’s like a new car and everything works (except AC? idk, top down anyways). Seems to me like a really complete package, and I know these things arent easy. I think its worth it to the people that are looking for em.

I will pull the LS1 from my daily driver Z28 and put it in an NA Miata for you for a quarter of the price!

85 K, reserve not met. Honestly I kind of doubt it’s as nice to drive either.
Don’t get me wrong, love Shelby Cobras. I remember the Winery I used to work at had a car meet for owners of Cobras and Ford GTs. Two rows of em lined up. It was a good day.

It’s certainly cool and all, but that’s closing in on used C7 Z06 or new C7 GS territory. Both of which I’d take over that badass Miata.

In the video they say AC is just a backordered part away. It’s not like it doesn’t fit.

85K CAD Though. what’s that, 12,95 in US monies?
and you’re right, it’s probably not as nice to drive. But it will hold its value a lot more than a modified MX-5.

I mean, it’s a good car with a unique personality. Track ready, lighter than just about anything else on the market, from a tried-and-true builder. I’d probably go GT4 over this if I had money to burn, but I see the appeal. Also the donor chassis will be relatively cheaply available in a few years.

I think calling this particular miata a “modified miata” is technically accurate, it falls short of what the Flyin’ Miata V8 is. Flyin miata is a really big name in the miata community. I know I look to them first whenever I want to do anything to my miata, and I’m willing to pay more if their seal of approval is on some part.
I guess what I am trying to say, is that there are a lot of young guys right now, who will be the old farts with money looking to recapture their lost youth, much the same way guys buying 60 mustangs and AC Cobras and the like are today. For that reason, while I’m no soothsayer, I can imagine this particular miata fetching big future money and retaining a pretty surprising resale price.
I know current Flyin Miata V8 NA conversions are still rare and pricey. To the point where I can’t even remember one being sold.
